Common

Occasionally a movie or a novel,
Strikes in the midway like a blow
It has my life written all over it!
The truth that was scared in the start
takes a brave front and laughs at me

The veracity that this life is an encore,
That this situation was faced already sinks in
Un-elated and gloomy I feel
My soul is just a hollow shell of a discarded life
that someone subsisted in a better way

My sacred pride of being unique and different
Stares and flings itself onto me,
Like undigested words thrown as echo by the muffled wall
It spits in unison that “I am common”
finally I comprehend the real implication of the word!

  1. Ah...no one is 'common'. All of us are different, but the interest to excel in whatever we do must always push us forward. There is no use in a life just plain and ordinary:)Interesting introspection!

  2. You are unique my dear, just like the rest of the world!
Only common fact is that each is unique.
And common occurrences of events in our lives, do not make you nor me any less unique.
Our responses, attitudes, feels, and how we embrace the situations, how we cherish it later, how we capitalise on it.. all makes us unique..

See how well you uniquely and most uncommonly penned on such a common setting:)

  3. We all need a reason, don't we?
We all are afraid, aren't we?

  4. It is classic KP. Reminded me of a Rumi's poem:

As you start to walk out on the way
    the way appears.

    As you cease to be,
    true life begins.

    As you grow smaller,
    this world cannot contain you.

You will be shown a being
that has no you in it.

  5. It is highly imaginative and written very well.
As Cloudnine puts it, no life is common. No life identical with another. They are all different with subtle nuances in their aspirations and traits.A comparison is good if it spurs one to excel

  8. Real Implications of the word? I think its good to be common. It makes it easy to fit in this world. The unique ones always remain an outcast.
But yes, no two individuals are exactly alike.

Awesome Thoughts. I have felt the same way many times.

I don't know how many times I read it...how could you so express it so damn exquisitely dear? so damn piercingly? I am injured! Injured! (sweet injury that can purges the soul):-)
The aptness of the title speaks out the uniqueness...so this is how you prove your uniqueness...by whiff of brilliant note on your commonness...so ironic:-) Love:-)

  14. we are different in our own way. even in crowd yes we are, but the saying walking along with crowd, kind of obscure the uniqueness.and I am common always strikes.

    aptly summarized.

  21. So many brilliant lines here that are worth numerous reads, which I have done! I will echo Nasnin's thoughts on the 'irony' of this poem!

It can be shattering to us when we think we have something unique that no one else possesses, only to find out that someone else has it too. Oops, there's goes the copyright idea :D

The last para is my favorite and also the two lines that precede it :)
